Sonu Nigam explained how singers would sing for their favorite actors, if they fought for them.
Sonu Nigam is undoubtedly a legendary singer when it comes to Bollywood music. In a career spanning decades, Sonu has lent his voice to many actors but his songs for Shah Rukh Khan remain iconic to this date. From Kal Ho Na Ho to Main Agar Kahoon, the two luminaries of the entertainment industry go a long way. In his recent interview, Sonu Nigam has claimed that he would still be singing for SRK and other actors, if they had fought for him.
In an interaction with the entertainment portal Zoom, Sonu Nigam explained, “I don’t think actors fight or interfere with singers in their films. If that was the case, I would still be singing for Shah Rukh Khan. They (actors) think this is the composer’s or director’s department. The best they can do is give their preference. But they don’t fight for anyone.”
Giving an example about the same, Sonu Nigam recalled how his collaboration with Aamir Khan was formulated. As per the singer, Aamir Khan was clear that he wanted no one other than him for his movie, “Like, in PK, when I sang the song (Bhagwan Hai Kahan Re Tu), I had a tiff with the music companies. They did not want me to sing. But, Rajkumar Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra put their foot down, ‘Sonu hi gaayega (only Sonu will sing this song)’.”
Meanwhile, in a different interaction, interaction, Sonu Nigam has dubbed ‘Chiggy Wiggy’ as a terrible song. During a freewheeling conversation with Red FM, Sonu Nigam expressed, “Chiggy Wiggy bohot hi bekaar gana hai. I don’t like the song at all. I don’t know why Rahman made such a bad song. I mean, how can they get Kylie Minogue on board and make such a bad song. I felt good that he thought about me for the song, but with Kylie Minogue, the standards could have been increased.”
He added, “But sometimes, even Rahman can make mistakes. But I do not like the song at all. The song could have been much better. With Kylie Minogue, we could have made a song of her level. I tried a lot to sing this song on stage and revive it.”
