Though Song Joong-ki has failed previously, the setbacks haven’t deterred him from trying again.
Actor Song Joong-ki continues to promote his latest offering Hopeless to the masses after it hit South Korean theaters on October 11. The Descendants of the Sun fame plays the role of a local gang boss in this neo-noir thriller which initially had its premiere at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. Recently, the actor made an appearance on JTBC‘s Newsroom, where he spoke candidly about what comes for him after Hopeless and how he plans to broaden his horizon as an actor. It was during the interaction that he shockingly admitted to failing multiple overseas auditions. But the setbacks haven’t deterred him from trying again.
Song Joong-ki revealed he once again has plans to go for several auditions after completing his Hopeless promotional spree. “I hope I make it this time. So far, I’ve always failed. My desire to act in different cultural contexts and industries is growing every day,” he said. According to the Vincenzo star, he always aims to try something different because repeating what he has already done is no fun to run. He claims it to be his “strange obsession.” Song Joong-ki believes if he doesn’t enjoy a project, it reflects in his acting skills thereby barring his full potential to shine out.
Although the actor has already reached the top of a mountain that he aimed for, now he wishes to expand beyond the horizon. “I want to become an even broader mountain,” he hopes. Song Joong-ki is reportedly taking up various challenges to meet his goal. But before signing off, the South Korean star urged fans to continue to support him.
Directed by Kim Chang-hoon, Hopeless is the debut movie of Hong Xa-bin, who plays a reckless teenage boy Yeon-gyu. With a distant dream of escaping from his tumultuous life of poverty, the youngster is looking for an easy shortcut to make money.
Yeon-gyu, who is physically abused by his stepfather and school bullies, crosses paths with Song Joong-ki’s gang boss Chi-geon and the two develop an instant brotherly love. But their bond is tested violently when things begin to spiral down, pushing the teenager into a hellish world of bloodbath that he wasn’t prepared for.
After Hopeless, Song Joong-ki has Bogota: City of the Lost and My Name is Loh Kiwam in the pipeline.
