Skoda Superb price, Kodiaq price, interior, features, details

The Kodiaq and Superb will get a new, large 12.9-inch touchscreen and three knobs to control the HVAC system.

Skoda has revealed the interior of the upcoming second-gen Kodiaq and fourth-gen Superb. The highlight of the interiors of the two models is the use of three knobs to control a majority of the functions in the cars.

  1. Skoda Kodiaq, Superb also get a 10.0-inch digital instrument cluster
  2. The knobs get a 1.26-inch display, have 4 physicals buttons
  3. Kodiaq, Superb PHEVs to have 100km of electric-only range

The new knobs also have small 1.26-inch (32mm) displays that show which function they are controlling. The outer two knobs solely control the temperature along with the seat heating or ventilation function for the driver and passenger. The latter two functions can be accessed by long pressing the knob.

The knobs also control seat heating and ventilation.

The centre knob controls media volume, fan speed and driving modes by default, with an option to add air direction and map zoom. The three knobs flank four physical buttons that control the front and rear windshield defogger, air circulation and the auto mode for the climate control.

Along with announcing the new knobs, Skoda also released images of the interior of the Kodiaq and Superb. The second-gen Kodiaq’s dashboard has the same hourglass-like design as the outgoing model, but the piano black inserts have been replaced with leather. The out going model has the central AC vents flanking the 8.0-inch touchscreen, but now, they have been positioned beneath the new large touchscreen.

New Kodiaq’s dashboard layout is similar to the first-gen Kodiaq.

The next-gen Superb’s interior, however, is a radical departure from the now-discontinued-in-India third-gen Superb. Front and centre is the new large touchscreen shared with the new Kodiaq. It now has a layered dashboard design with leather and wood inserts. In the third-gen Superb, the central AC vents were placed above the touchscreen, but now, like the Kodiaq, they are placed underneath. The corner AC vents are neatly integrated with the vertical dashboard inlays.

Skoda also mentioned the new Kodiaq and Superb will feature a 12.9-inch touchscreen as well as a 10.0-inch digital instrument cluster. The directional controls of the AC vents are now two knobs sitting on a chrome strip, which itself sits between the lock/unlock button and the hazard light-switch. Both will also get a column-mounted drive selector.

New Superb’s interior is a radical departure from the current-gen model.

New Skoda Kodiaq, Superb powertrain

As before, the upcoming Kodiaq and Superb share their powertrains and get a choice of five engines –  two petrol, two diesel and a plug-in hybrid (PHEV). The PHEV versions get a 150hp, 1.5-litre TSI engine and a 25.7kWh battery. Combined with the electric motor, the Kodiaq and Superb PHEV’s total outputs will be 204hp and both will come with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Skoda says the hybrids will have an electric-only range of 100km.

The 150hp, 1.5-litre TSI engine will also power the entry-level Kodiaq and Superb, but will get a mild-hybrid system and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The other petrol engine on offer with the two models will be a 2.0-litre TSI. On the Kodiaq it will come with 204hp, a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic l, and a four-wheel drive system. On the superb, it will come in two states of tune – 204hp and 265hp – with both getting the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, but only the latter will come with the four-wheel drive system.

Both will also get two diesel engines. One will be a 150hp, 2.0-litre diesel engine mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, while the other will be the same powertrain producing 193hp that’s mated to a four-wheel drive system.

Skoda Kodiaq, Superb in India

Skoda India currently sells the first-gen Kodiaq’s facelift, which is priced between Rs 38.50 lakh-Rs 41.95 lakh (ex-showroom, India). Until recently, the third-gen Superb was sold in India and was priced between Rs 34.19 lakh-Rs 37.29 lakh (ex-showroom, India). While the Kodiaq rivals the Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster and Jeep Meridian, the Superb has no direct rivals in India.
