The Glanza’s AMT gearbox is the least sophisticated automatic gearbox in the segment, but should that have you worried? Here’s what we’d recommend.
I’m looking to buy a car around the Rs 10 lakh-11 lakh mark and I’m looking for an automatic, premium hatchback (also considering C-SUVs). I drive around 1,400km each month and prioritise on fuel efficiency, features and safety, and have shortlisted the new Glanza AMT. I feel it fulfils all my requirements, except may be the AMT and safety. Should I worry? The AMT seems fairly smooth with gentle throttle inputs and it has a long list of safety features, including six airbags.

The Glanza is a well-loaded car with lots of features that were missing in the previous model. It is quite safe as it meets international standards for crash safety and six airbags is an added bonus. It is fuel efficient and very reliable too, so total cost of ownership will be reasonable. The AMT has improved, but quite frankly, it’s a step down from the CVT the earlier Glanza had. However, do keep in mind the fact that the Glanza AMT currently has about four months in waiting.Â
