Saira Banu celebrated the anniversary of her engagement to legendary actor Dilip Kumar by penning a heartfelt note.
Veteran actors Saira Banu and Dilip Kumar have been one of the most powerful celebrity couples of all time. Fans of the actors have cherished their chemistry both on-screen and off-screen over the years. When Dilip Kumar passed away on July 7, 2021, the news spread shockwaves throughout the country. However, on his second anniversary, Saira Banu made her Instagram debut and has since used to platform to share anecdotes and unseen pictures from their lives together. In her recent post, Saira recalled her engagement to Dilip.
Saira Banu shared two black-and-white photos from her and Dilip Kumar’s engagement ceremony to mark the anniversary of the special day on Monday, October 2. In one photo, Saira could be seen shaking hands with Dilip as the couple gazed into each other’s eyes. In the second photo, Saira wore a garland around her neck and smiled in a direction away from the camera as Dilip held a garland in his hand and lovingly looked at his bride-to-be.
The veteran actress wrote, “This date is dearest to my heart because on 23rd August, 1966 Dilip Sahib walked into my house and my Heart to wish me for my Birthday and wonder of wonders! The very next week, Sahib sought my hand in marriage from my grandmother Shamshad Abdul Waheed Khan’s approval. Consequently, on this day October 2nd, we had a quiet family ceremony where Dilip Sahib and I exchanged engagement rings and my dream of becoming Dilip Sahib’s wife stepped onto the threshold of coming true.”
“To the entire world, this was a bolt from the blue because nobody had ever imagined this possibility since we had never worked together and had never been propelled as an ‘Ideal Couple’ by the imaginative media and so this news created a storm worldwide. This happening has beautiful sentimental parts to narrate as well as hilariously funny incidents that ensued which I shall write about later,” she added.
Saira Banu and Dilip Kumar got married soon after on October 11, 1996. Saira was 22 years old and Dilip was 44 years old when they got married. While Saira maintains that she fell in love with Dilip when she first met him as a 12-year-old girl, Dilip wrote in his memoir that he fell for Saira when he saw her on her 22nd birthday.
