The non-profit organisation aims to improve road safety in India by encouraging two-wheeler riders to wear helmets.
Royal Enfield has announced a partnership with a non-profit organisation called Helmets For India, with an aim to tackle the problem of low helmet utilisation on two-wheelers in our nation.
Helmets For India was started by Niels-Peter Jensen, a German film-maker, TV host and avid motorcyclist, after a visit to India in 2018. During this visit, he witnessed a road accident involving an adult and a child on a two-wheeler, neither of whom were wearing helmets.
Moved by the incident, Jensen founded Helmets For India, which has since undertaken numerous awareness drives in India, and even completed a road trip from Mumbai to Goa, distributing over 300 helmets along the way.
The project aims to create an organic attraction towards helmets, rather than pressurising riders to wear them. To do this, Jensen has collaborated with numerous artists around the world to create customised helmets and show them during his campaigns in India. These helmets will be auctioned later this year, and the money raised will be donated to an Indian NGO that is yet to be decided.
Another Helmets For India ride is also being planned, with Jensen and his team riding 1,000km from the Royal Enfield Garage Cafe in Goa to Kanyakumari.
