Honda closes the gap with Hero and sees 30 percent increase in sales compared to last year.
Sales figures for the six heavyweights in the Indian two-wheeler arena have been revealed for May 2024 and here’s how each manufacturer performed.
Hero MotoCorp: 4,98,123 units
Hero MotoCorp remains on top once again with sales of 4,98,123 units. Compared to April 2024 (5,13,296 units), Hero has reported a 2.95 percent decrease in sales. On the other hand, compared to its May 2023 figures (4,89,336 units), the company’s sales have increased by 1.76 percent. It has also reported a 40 percent increase in exports for May 2024 (18,673 units), compared to May 2023 (11,165 units). Honda: 4,50,589 units
For May 2024, Honda’s sales tally up to 4,50,589 units, which is a 6.33 percent decrease compared to its April 2024 numbers (4,81,046 units). The company reported a figure of 3,11,114 units in May 2023, which marks a 30.95 percent increase for May 2024. In fact, the Japanese manufacturer even saw a 41 percent increase in export sales compared to the same month last year. Honda recently patented a 160cc scooter in India. Tap here to read about it.
TVS Motor Company: 3,59,590 units
With 3,59,590 units sold last month, TVS reports a 29.72 percent increase in total two-wheeler domestic sales compared to May 2023 (2,52,690 units). In addition, sales have increased by 16.16 percent when compared to April 2024 (3,01,449 units). These numbers do not include sales figures of TVS’ iQube electric scooter range. Bajaj Auto: 1,88,340 units
Bajaj reported a 3 percent decrease in sales for May 2024 (1,88,340 units) compared to its numbers for May 2023 (1,94,811 units). The Chakan-based company also saw a 13.18 percent decrease in sales compared to April 2024 (2,16,950 units). However, despite a marginal dip in domestic sales, Bajaj has reported a 4 percent increase in exports for May 2024 (1,17,142 units) compared to May 2023 (1,12,885 units). It is also worth noting that these numbers include the sales of Bajaj’s electric scooters under the Chetak subsidiary. Suzuki: 1,11,512 units
Suzuki has reported growth in sales in the past few months and this month is no different. Compared to its sales figures from April 2024 (88,067 units), Suzuki reported a 21.02 percent increase in May 2024 having sold 1,11,512 units. Compared to its sales from the same month last year, Suzuki reports an 44.90 percent increase. Royal Enfield: 63,531 units
Royal Enfield has reported a sales figure of 63,531 units for May 2024, which is down by 10.26 percent from May 2023 (70,795 units). Compared to Royal Enfield’s sales from April 2024 (75,038 units), this month sees a decrease of 15.33 percent. However, the company has seen a 10.87 percent growth in exports for May 2024 (7,479 units) compared to May 2023 (6,666 units).
