Rohit Kapoor quits Oyo, said to be in talks with Swiggy to join as the new CEO of food delivery business

Rohit Kapoor, who was elevated to a global chief marketing office role at Oyo in major reshuffle in March this year, has resigned from the company, people familiar with the matter told ET.

Sources familiar with the matter said he is in talks with Swiggy to join them as their chief executive officer (CEO) of the food delivery business. Kapoor did not respond to ET’s queries and could not be immediately reached for comments. Oyo and Swiggy did not respond to an email seeking comments.

Previously, Kapoor was the CEO for Oyo’s India and Southeast Asia operations.

If Kapoor joins Swiggy, it will be at a time when top executives have resigned from the food delivery startup in recent times, including chief operating officer (COO) Vivek Sunder who was overseeing the company’s food delivery business.

Shivcharan Pulugurtha who was the senior vice-president – the senior most role after a CXO – of business at Swiggy, where he oversaw the food delivery business followed Sunder’s footsteps to join Tata Digital, ET reported in May.

In March, Oyo had announced its global chief business officer
Ankit Tandon will take on the additional responsibility of Southeast Asia, with a specific focus on Indonesia and the Middle East region as its CEO.

Ankit Gupta, currently the CEO of Hotels and Homes India, had taken on the role of the India CEO. All three leaders will report to the founder and group CEO Ritesh Agarwal, the company had said.

While announcing Kapoor’s new role, Oyo had said he would focus on lifting the brand persona of Oyo to a more ‘aspirational’ consumer-tech brand and increase its affinity to ‘important’ customer cohorts such as family, leisure travellers and corporate customers. Oyo had said Kapoor will also focus on introducing the Oyo brand to its European vacation homes’ business, where it currently uses multiple brands across the various north European countries.
