Riddhima Kapoor Sahni reflects on the challenges her family faced after Rishi Kapoor’s death, including insensitive remarks about their appearances in public.
The loss of Rishi Kapoor left a profound impact on his family, especially his wife, Neetu Kapoor, and their children, Riddhima and Ranbir Kapoor. Recently, Riddhima Kapoor Sahni opened up about the period following her father’s passing, revealing that they faced criticism for appearing happy in public. She noted that outsiders don’t understand the depths of their family’s struggles, adding that such remarks felt insensitive.
After the Mulk actor’s death, the Kapoor family maintained privacy around their grief. However, in a recent interview with Galatta India about Fabulous Lives vs Bollywood Wives Season 3, Riddhima shared insights into the criticism they faced whenever they seemed cheerful in photos or appearances after Kapoor’s passing.
Riddhima expressed admiration for her mother, Neetu Kapoor, saying she managed the situation with resilience despite judgment from those unaware of their grief. She reflected on the insensitivity of such comments, sharing, “People used to say to us, ‘Oh, they look so happy, and they are going out, and they are doing this.’ But you have to come home and see what happens.”
She explained that while they looked composed in public, privately, the family was navigating a difficult journey. Their choice not to visibly express their sadness did not mean they weren’t affected, and she wished people understood this complexity.
Addressing the accusations of privilege, Riddhima responded, “People say so and so are privileged, so and so have everything; not necessarily how do you know the insecurity the other person is facing?”
In an earlier conversation with Siddharth Kannan on YouTube, Riddhima revealed that, following Rishi Kapoor’s death, family members refrained from displaying their emotions openly. Despite this, the experience brought them closer. She recounted, “We used to go to separate rooms and cry, like take it all out and then come and then just be normal or act normal, but it has gotten us really close.”
Rishi Kapoor passed away in 2020 after a long battle with cancer. Riddhima, who has traditionally avoided the limelight and established a career in jewelry design, recently stepped into showbiz through Fabulous Lives vs Bollywood Wives Season 3, joining Maheep Kapoor, Bhavana Pandey, Neelam Kothari, Seema Sajdeh, Shalini Passi, and Kalyani.
