Rani Mukerji enjoyed to the hilt at Bijaya Dashami celebrations at her family’s Durga Puja on Tuesday evening.

After five days of festivities, it’s time to bid Ma Durga adieu. Bijoya Dashami, also called Dussehra, is significant Bengali festival celebrating Goddess Durga’s victory over the demon king Mahishasura. Actress Rani Mukerji, on the special day, channeled the Bengali in her and opted for a traditional look.

The actress dropped a series of photos in Bengali traditional beiger and red sari, as she arrived at her family’s Durga Puja pandal for Devi boron and sindoor khela. She let her hair loose and accessorised the look red bindi, chunky, gold earrings and gold neckpiece. She draped the sari in a traditional Bengali manner. She also sported traditional shaka pola (white and red bangles). Not only did she engage in sindoor khela but also danced to the beats of dhaak.

Rani looked soaked in the festive fervour as she engaged in sindoor khela with her friends and family and smeared vermillion on their faces. Post sindoor khela, she made her way up to ladder for Debi boron – the traditional way of bidding Ma Durga adieu with sweets, sindoor and betel leaves.

Filmmaker Anurag Basu also indulged in sindoor khela and also played the dhaak. Among others spotted at the Dashami festivities were Rupali Ganguly and Sumona Chakraborty. Rani was accompanied by her best friend, choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant.

Ever year, Rani takes part in Durga Puja festivities at the North Bombay Sarbojanin Durga Puja, one of the largest pujas in the western suburbs. The puja, initiated by Ayan Mukerji’s father and Rani’s uncle Deb Mukherjee, marked its diamond Jubilee last year. This year, too, the Mukerji family has been participating in the Durga Puja festivities.
