Jailer has become the second highest-grossing Tamil film of all time.
According to the entertainment tracker Sacnilk, Jailer has earned Rs 403.6 crore gross at the domestic box office.
Rajinikanth starrer Jailer is dominating the box office with its blockbuster numbers. This film faced tough competition from other films like Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2 and Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2. Jailer still managed to reach the spot of the second highest-grossing Tamil film of all time. Now, it has added another feather to its cap.
According to reports Rajinikanth has broken records and has left Shah Rukh Khan behind, in terms of the highest-grossing Indian film ever in Malaysia. Reportedly, Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale, directed by Rohit Shetty, ruled the Malaysian box office for a long time. Now, Jailer has taken over this title and Rajinikanth’s followers are delighted to no end.
Film distribution and production company, Ayngaran International, wrote a tweet on September 13, “And the record-breaking continues…We are proud to announce that #Jailer has grossed the highest collection in Malaysia among all Indian films by a HUGE margin. A never before in history moment.”
Jailer’s box-office run shows no signs of slowing down even after nearly a month of its release. According to the entertainment tracker Sacnilk, Jailer has earned Rs 403.6 crore gross at the domestic box office. On the other hand, it minted around Rs 196 crore overseas, taking the total worldwide collection to Rs 599.6 crore. Jailer has currently become the second highest-grossing Tamil film of all time. S Shankar’s science fantasy action film 2.0 tops the list which also starred Rajinikanth. It earned Rs 723.30 crore at the global box office.
Nelson Dilipkumar has written and directed Jailer. The film revolves around Muthuvel Pandian (Rajinikanth), a retired jailer, who lives happily with his wife, son, daughter-in-law and grandson. His son Arjun Pandian (Vasanth Ravi) is an Assistant Commissioner of police and goes missing while investigating the case of missing temple idols. Arjun is presumed dead. How Muthuvel Pandian fights Varman (Vinayakan), the mastermind behind the temple idol smuggling, forms the core theme of Jailer.
Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Kishore Kumar G and others have acted in this film. Jackie Shroff, Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar and Tamannaah Bhatia have performed extended cameo roles in this film.
