Rajinikanth recently celebrated his 73rd birthday. Fondly known as Thalaiva by his millions of fans, Rajinikanth turned 73 on December 12, Tuesday. The actor has now issued an official statement expressing his ‘heartfelt thanks’ to well wishers, fans and to his fellow industry friends.
He shared a post on X that read, “To all my well-wishers and friends, who have wished me on my birthday from the Indian film fraternity, sports, business, media and all other fields of work, to all political leaders and friends from different states. To all the loving hearts from the public and society, and to my dear fans all over the world and to the people of Tamil Nadu, My Heartfelt Thanks!!! (sic).”
On this special occasion, the title of his highly anticipated movie, Thalaivar 170, was revealed. The upcoming film is titled Vettaiyan, and to mark the announcement, the makers released a teaser that has ignited excitement among fans. Directed by TJ Gnanavel, the film features not only Rajinikanth but also Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan in a prominent role, marking their collaboration after three decades. The star-studded cast includes Rana Daggubati, Fahad Faasil, Ritika Singh, Manju Warrier, and Dushara Vijayan, among others.
The title teaser, shared by Lyca Productions on social media, opens with Rajinikanth reading a book featuring Subhas Chandra Bose. The teaser suggests that Rajinikanth might be portraying the role of a professor, but it also features scenes of him with a lathi and holding a gun, reminiscent of his character in the recently released Jailer
Reports suggest that Rajinikanth will play the role of a retired Muslim police officer in Vettaiyan, as seen in the teaser where he reopens a case to seek justice. The film was shot in various locations, including Thiruvananthapuram, Tirunelveli, and Mumbai, and is set to release in multiple languages, including Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada.
Following the release of Thalaivar 170, Rajinikanth is set to work on Thalaivar 171 with director Lokesh Kanagaraj, which is scheduled to begin filming next year.
