Lingaa director said that Rajinikanth hijacked the film’s final edit.
Director KS Ravikumar has blamed superstar Rajinikanth for the failure of his 2014 film, Lingaa. Ravikumar accused Rajinikanth of hijacking the film’s edit and changing the story altogether. He added that the superstar cut a song featuring Anushka Shetty and even added a fake hot air balloon scene.
Pinkvilla translated what he said on Chat with Chitra in Tamil, “Rajinikanth interfered in the editing and did not give me time for CGI. He changed the second half of the movie completely and removed a surprise twist in the climax. He also removed a song featuring Anushka and added the artificial (hot air) balloon scene, which completely messed up Lingaa.”
Lingaa featured Rajinikanth in dual roles – as Lingaa and his grandson Raja Lingeswaran. The film featured Sonakshi Sinha and Anushka Shetty in the lead. The film was made on a budget of Rs 100 crore. While the film opened to a lukewarm response, some scenes, like the hot air balloon one, were massively trolled by the audience.
Meanwhile, Tamil cinema stalwart Rajinikanth is eagerly anticipating the release of his Vettaiyan, written and directed by TG Gnanavel. This film will be released at the cinema halls on October 10, 2024. According to the latest reports, Rajinikanth has been paid an estimated Rs 100-Rs 125 crore for his role in the film.
This marks Rajinikanth’s 170th film, produced by Lyca Productions with a massive budget of Rs 160 crore. The movie has been shot across picturesque locations in Chennai, Mumbai, Thiruvananthapuram, and Hyderabad, further heightening the anticipation for its release.
Even before the release, Vettaiyan, according to reports, the film has earned an astonishing USD 97,000 (roughly Rs 80 lakh). The film has earned this amount from nearly 4,000 advance ticket sales. Anirudh Ravichander has composed the film’s music. S R Kathir serves as the cinematographer and Philomin Raj is handling the edits.
Rajinikanth, one of the biggest stars in Indian cinema, is beloved for his iconic roles and charismatic screen presence. Known affectionately as “Thalaivar,” he has mesmerised audiences for decades with blockbuster films like Baasha (1995), Sivaji (2007), and more recently, Jailer (2023), which was well-received both critically and commercially
