Salaar, one of the most highly anticipated Indian films of the year, directed by Prashanth Neel and starring superstar Prabhas in the lead role, has seen a shift in its release date. The film’s makers, Hombale Films, initially announced the release date as September 28 after unveiling a short teaser in July. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the production house has decided to postpone the original release date.
In an Instagram post, Hombale Films made the announcement, assuring fans that they remain committed to delivering the film with the highest standards of cinematic excellence. While the new release date has yet to be disclosed, Hombale Films is expected to provide an update shortly.
Now, according to a source reported by Bollywood Hungama, Star TV has secured the satellite rights for Salaar at a groundbreaking price. “Salaar’s satellite rights have been bagged by Star TV for a record price. The television network has secured the rights to all 5 languages in which Salaar will be released – Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam.”
That apart, the source added that Netflix has acquired the digital rights for all five languages, also setting a record in terms of the amount paid. “Netflix has acquired the digital rights of all 5 languages. Again, the price paid by the streaming giant is a record one. Though it’s not known how much Star TV and Netflix paid individually, it is learnt that Salaar’s makers have earned a whopping Rs. 350 through the sale of their satellite, digital and also audio rights.” the source added.
Industry insiders believe that this deal for Salaar is possibly one of the highest ever recorded for a film’s non-theatrical distribution channels. Notably, KGF – Chapter 2 (2022), produced by Hombale Films and directed by Prashanth Neel, like Salaar, was also sold at a record price, but Salaar’s rights have fetched an even higher amount.
