Porsche Cayenne electric SUV: flagship model, sales, launch date



Porsche confirmed at its annual press conference today that the all-electric Cayenne is set to arrive in 2026. This will be two years after the Macan EV, which is set to launch in 2024, and a year after the all-electric 718, which should arrive by 2025.

The all-electric Cayenne will be the fourth generation of its flagship SUV, and will be based on the same Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture that underpins the Macan EV. The company has not disclosed technical details of the electric Cayenne, but while the electric Macan will arrive with a 100kWh battery, we expect the Cayenne EV to get a larger unit.

Porsche Cayenne updates

Porsche will sell the Cayenne EV alongside the current Cayenne ICE range, which, by then, will have received massive updates. Porsche says this will be a comprehensive update that will include three further developed plug-in hybrids with greater all-electric ranges, and will also offer better on and off-road performance and long-distance comfort.

At the conference, Porsche also stated that it sold a total of 3,09,884 units in 2022 marking a 3 percent increase over the previous year. Of this, the Cayenne was the bestseller clocking 95,604 units. The all-electric Cayenne will, thus, be a key player in the company’s target to achieve 80 percent sales from electric vehicles by 2030.

New flagship SUV

When it arrives, the all-electric Cayenne will be the brand’s flagship SUV, however, not for long. The company earlier confirmed an all-new all-electric SUV that would sit above the Cayenne, and at the conference, they said the new vehicle “is designed to offer strong performance and automated driving functions with the typical Porsche fly line, along with a completely new experience inside the vehicle.”

The expansion of the SUV line is a clear nod to them being profit makers – last year, the Macan netted 86,724 units, which, together with the Cayenne, constitute over half of the brand’s total sales. “We are thereby underlining and strengthening our sporty luxury positioning. We are observing growing profit pools in this segment, in particular in China and the US,” explained Oliver Blume, chairman of the Executive Board.

In India, too, Porsche SUVs account for the majority of the company’s sales – last year Porsche sold 779 vehicles, of which 399 units were the Cayenne.
