Paytm launches ‘Card Soundbox’ for payments

Paytm on Monday launched its ‘Card Soundbox’ device, which allows merchants to accept both mobile and card payments across the Visa, Mastercard, American Express and RuPay networks.

The ‘Card Soundbox’ has a built-in ‘tap and pay’ feature through which merchants can accept card payments up to Rs 5,000. Users with NFC-enabled smartphones can also pay through their phones using the tap feature.

The device is powered by 4G network connectivity and has five days of battery life on a full charge. It offers alerts in 11 languages.

The company recently announced the launch of its Paytm Pocket Soundbox and Paytm Music Soundbox for merchants.

With Paytm Card Soundbox, the company solves two problems for merchants—accepting card payments along and getting instant audio alerts on all payments, it said in a statement.

The new Soundbox provides both audio and visual payment confirmation through an LCD display for the merchant and the customer, the company added.

The device will expand payment acceptance for merchants by combining Soundbox for NFC (contactless debit and credit card payments) with mobile payments, it said. “We have found that merchants and consumers need card acceptance as simply as mobile payments with a Paytm QR Code. The launch of Card Soundbox will go a long way in merging the two requirements of merchants: mobile payments and card payments,” said Paytm founder & CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma.
