Linking PAN and Aadhaar: The Aadhaar-PAN linking deadline has been extended by three months, from March 31 to June 30, 2023, by the government. All non-connected PAN cards will be rendered useless on July 1, 2023, according to the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).
“In order to provide some more time to the taxpayers, the date for linking PAN and Aadhaar has been extended to 30th June 2023, whereby persons can intimate their Aadhaar to the prescribed authority for Aadhaar-PAN linking without facing repercussions,” states the information technology department.
What happens if PAN-Aadhaar is not linked?
According to the Income Tax department, citizens’ PAN cards will cease to be valid if they do not link them to Aadhaar. As per the CBDT rule, “Rule 114AAA of the Income tax decide gives that, assuming PAN of an individual becomes out of commission, they can not outfit, close or statement their PAN and will be obligated to the results under the represent such disappointment.”
What is the penalty for failing to link a PAN to an Aadhaar card on time?
Those who linked their PAN-Aadhaar card prior to March 31, 2023, received free service, while those who did not will be subject to a fine of Rs 1,000. If nothing is done by June 30, 2023, it will cease to function.
How is the PAN-Aadhaar card linked?
- Select Link Aadhaar from the e-Filing portal’s home page at https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in.
- Enter both your PAN and your Aadhaar number.
- Continue to Pay Tax Through e-Payment.
- Enter your PAN, PAN confirmation, and mobile number to receive an OTP.
- After your OTP is verified, you will be taken to the e-Pay Tax page.
- Provide the necessary information and pay the required fee.
- The PAN can be used once more after 30 days by notifying the appropriate official and paying a fee of Rs. 1,000.
