Pankaj Tripathi shared his thoughts on losing his father at the age of 99 in August.
Bollywood actor Pankaj Tripathi’s father, Pandit Banaras Tiwari, passed away in August this year. He was 99. Since then, Pankaj Tripathi had dedicated his big National Award win to him and also opened a library in his village high school, as a token of remembrance for him. Now the OMG 2 actor has opened up about this loss and shared that it was akin to losing a roof over his head.
Speaking with the entertainment portal PinkVilla, Pankaj Tripathi stated, “I haven’t taken any advice from my father for the last 30 years. I am an independent person and I have been making my own decisions for the last 30 years. Usually after making a decision, I call him and tell him that I am doing this. For instance, I told him I was going to Mumbai after I reached Mumbai. He asked me, ‘What will you do in Mumbai?’ I said, ‘I will work in films.’ He asked me, ‘Hojaega?’ I said, ‘Haan hojaega (Yes, I will do it).’
He shared further, “When he died I thought, ‘Now from whom will I take advice?’ Then I realised I hadn’t taken any advice from him for the past 25-30 years, so why this question is arising in my mind? It is because a father is like a roof over your head and now it feel like that roof is removed.”
When the actor won the National Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Mimi, the actor had issued a statement, along with declaring that the award was dedicated to his father. The statement read, “This is unfortunately a period of loss and grieving for me. If Babuji was around, he would have been really happy for me. When I first got the National Award mention, he was very proud and pleased. This National Award I dedicate to him and his spirit. I’m who I’m today because of him. I’m in a loss of words due to this time but I’m happy and grateful to the team. Kriti also has won the Best Actress, so a huge congratulations to her.”
