PAN not linked to Aadhaar will be “inoperative” after March 31, 2023.

The last day to link PAN-Aadhaar for a fee of Rs 1000 is March 31, 2023.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has previously stated that PAN will be “inoperative” after March 31, 2023, if it is not linked to Aadhaar.

CBDT has extended the deadline for linking PAN to Aadhaar from March 31, 2022, to March 31, 2023. However, in order to begin the linking procedure, a fee of Rs. According to an advisory issued by the IT department, customers’ PAN numbers will become inactive if they do not link them to Aadhaar by March 31, 2023.


In accordance with the regulations in place at the time, the government has mandated that your PAN and Aadhaar numbers be linked. There are legal requirements for the linking procedure, but it also has benefits for the government and taxpayers.

“As per Income-tax Act, 1961, the last date for linking PAN with Aadhaar is 31.3.2023, for all PAN holders who do not fall under the exempt category, failing which the unlinked PAN shall become inoperative,” reads a recent tweet from the Income Tax Department.

You can link your PAN to your Aadhaar by following the steps below:

  1. Visit the official website of the Income Tax Department of India (https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/)
  2. Click on the ‘Link Aadhaar’ option available under the ‘Quick Links’ section on the homepage.
  3. A new page will open where you need to enter your PAN, Aadhaar number, and your name as mentioned on your Aadhaar card.
  4. Enter the Captcha code displayed on the page and click on the ‘Link Aadhaar’ button.

How to Check the Status of Aadhaar-PAN Linking

a) To file your income tax electronically, go to incometax.gov.in.
b) Look for the option to “Link Aadhaar Status.”
c) Select “View Link Aadhaar Status” after entering your PAN and Aadhaar number.
d) If your PAN is linked to your Aadhaar, a message will appear on your screen.

The 10 digits of your PAN will be linked to the 12 digits of your Aadhaar card number.
