Actress Darshana Rajendran has been honoured as the Best Actor in a Negative Role at the recently-held OTTplay Awards. It was organised by OTTplay, an online media platform, in Mumbai. The Malayali actress won the award for her character in the show Purusha Pretham, which is directed by Krishand. This makes her the first Malayali actor to win this award. The event was held in Mumbai, on October 29. Darshana gave a speech at the function. She said, “I am happy to be here. I am a big fan of Kajol and I have grown up watching her films. So, it’s fascinating to see her sitting here. It’s lovely seeing all of you.”
Darshana also talked about her film Purusha Pretham, which brought her the award. She said, “Purusha Pretham was a very small film that my director Krishand was very hesitant to offer to me because this character was nothing like someone playing a lead role would do.” She revealed that the director thought she would reject the role. According to the actress, “that’s exactly why I wanted to do it and I jumped right in. It was an experience like none other. It got me my first award in a negative role.”
Purusha Pretham is directed by Krishand, and produced by Jomom Jacob, Dijo Augustine and Einstein Zac Paul under Mankind Cinemas and Einstein Media. The film features Darshana Rajendran, Alexander Prasanth, Jagadish, Devaki Rajendran, Maala Parvathi and Balaji Sharma. Ajith Haridas and Manu Thodupuzha have penned the story. It was released on March 24, 2023, on the OTT platform SonyLIV.
Darshana Rajendran made her debut in acting with the Malayalam film John Paul Vaathil Thurakkunnu, in 2014. She has appeared in films like Mayanadhi, Virus, Vijay Superum Pournamiyum, and Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey.
