Ola Electric will recall 1,441 S1 Pro electric scooters

The company will conduct preemptive diagnostics and health checks.

Ola Electric has announced that it will recall 1,441 units of its electric scooter to conduct preemptive diagnostics and health checks. These include battery and thermal management systems.

The announcement comes in the wake of an incident last month in Pune where an Ola S1 Pro caught fire. The company said that preliminary investigations have revealed that the incident was an isolated case, however, they are trying to find the root cause of the fire.

“As a pre-emptive measure, we will be conducting a detailed diagnostics and health check of the scooters in that specific batch and therefore are issuing a voluntary recall of 1,441 vehicles,” the company said in a statement.

At a recent tour of the company’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu, Aggarwal had said that Ola has employed the services of “world class” agencies to unearth the reason behind the fire. The company is expected to conclude the investigation and make the findings public soon.

Photos and videos of the incident where the Ola S1 Prowas engulfed in smoke and flames was widely circulated on social media. In fact, not just Ola, but there have been incidents of  e-scooters sold in India by Pure EV and Okinawa have also been widely shared.

Aggarwal’s statement comes days after Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari put out a stern warning suggesting electric scooter companies should voluntarily recall their products and assess any issues or else face heavy penalties.
