Government’s Vahan portal states Ola registered 12,689 units in April, higher than previous segment leader Hero Electric.
Ola Electric has managed to outsell its competition in April 2022, toppling erstwhile leader Hero Electric for the top spot. Registrations on the government’s Vahan portal show that 12,689 Ola scooters were registered last month. Meanwhile, Hero Electric, in comparison, registered only 6,571 units of Hero Electric scooters in the same period. Besides Hero Electric, Ola’s other competition, Ather had a strong April as well. As per Vahan, 2445 units were registered.
It must be noted that Ola doesn’t have any showrooms and has adopted a direct-to-home model, delivering registered scooters to the customers at their doorstep. While Ola has remained tight-lipped about the actual number of orders it has received, the number of registrations have shown an upward trend over the last five months.
The new registrations and the fact that they outsold everyone else should come as music to the ears of Ola Electric who has been grappling with a few issues in the past few months. One of its scooters in Pune catching fire due to a possible thermal runaway issue, delays in deliveries, bugs with scooter software have brought a lot of negative publicity for the company. In fact, the company recently recalled 1,441 units of the S1 Pro to carry out inspection and preventive measures, following the fire incident mentioned above.
Hero Electric, on the other hand, also has more than just the sales decline to worry about. It recently stated that it couldn’t dispatch a single unit in April due to the acute chip shortage. The company says they have geared up alternate sources and would soon resume production.
