A number of electric scooters have caught fire recently even as these companies come under the scanner. Three of Okinawa’s scooters have caught fire since October last year, resulting in two casualties.
Okinawa Autotech was the third largest selling electric two-wheeler maker in March 2022 with sales of 8,284 units.
Ola Electric, Pure EV and Jitendra EV are other companies that have seen their electric scooters catch fire in the last three weeks. Ola Electric is yet to publicly comment on its investigation into the episode.

Naveen Munjal, managing director of Hero Electric, the largest electric scooter maker by volume,
told ET on April 11 that the company is holding camps for 450,000 customers and will fit sensors on the battery to alert customers in case of fires.
