Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal will hit theatres on December 1 and will clash at the box office with Vicky Kaushal’s Sam Bahadur.
On 1st December, two major Hindi films that carry massive buzz about themselves will be clashing at the box office- Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal and Vicky Kaushal’s Sam Bahadur. While the former is based on a fictional tale between a father and son, the latter is recreating chapters from the history books from the life of India’s first Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw.
When it comes to advance booking, Animal is leading Sam Bahadur by leaps and bounds. As per the current numbers coming in, the Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial has unleashed a certain craze for its tickets and they are being sold like hotcakes post the trailer launch. As per Sacknilk, a trade portal, the film has so far sold more than five lakh tickets across Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu languages for day 1, amounting to an advance box office collection of almost 14 crore. On the other hand, Sam Bahadur has sold about 40000 tickets having a box office collection of Rs 1.25 crore. It would be interesting to see how the trade picks up till the day of the release.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh told exclusively that the first preference for the audience is Animal. “The advance booking of Animal is mind-boggling. Ranbir Kapoor is coming with an out-and-out action film and there is a lot of curiosity among the audience to watch him in this new avatar. I am pretty sure the film will earn anywhere between Rs 35-40 crore range on Day 1. The brunt of this will be borne by Sam Bahadur as the advances are barely 10- percent of the Ranbir Kapoor starrer.”
However, Adarsh adds that it doesn’t mean that Sam Bahadur won’t do well. “In the past, we have had various examples when two big films clashed including Gadar-2 and OMG-2 this year at the box office and both did well. Sam Bahadur has a lot of merit and with word of mouth it will surely find its audience.”
Echoing a similar sentiment, trade expert Girish Wankhede said, “I believe this is going to be Ranbir Kapoor’s biggest opening at the box office in his career. The film will easily enter the Rs 100 crore club in three days.”
He adds, “Sam Bahadur is going to be a second choice for moviegoers. I believe the film should start slow but will surely pick up and will have a profitable lifetime collection.”
At a recent event, Vicky Kaushal addressed the topic of the box-office clash as he said, “In today’s time, we, as an industry, should give the option of multiple films on the same day to the audience. That’s how we will flourish as an industry. We have those many weeks in a year, but as an industry, we cannot limit ourselves to making those many films in a year. We will have to make multiple films and we will have multiple releases on the same day.”
