Not Rupali Ganguly, But This Actress Was First Offered The Lead Role In Anupamaa –

Neha made the revelation in an interview.

Neha Pendse could have played the lead in the project, but she missed out on the chance.

Neha Pendse is an accomplished TV actress who is currently riding high on the success of projects like the serials Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hai, Partners and the recently-launched second season of May I Come In Madam. She reprised her role of Sanjana Hiteshi in this serial and garnered favourable reviews.

Neha could have played the lead role in another project, but she missed out on the chance. The serial is none other than the famous daily soap, Anupamaa. Neha revealed it in an interview with ETimes recently. She was asked whether she had turned down any project and later regretted it.

Neha said, “I regretted a lot after rejecting one show. I was asked to take up the show Anupamaa, when it was conceptualised at a very preliminary stage. Becase Anupamaa show jo hai wo Marathi show se liya gaya hai, Aai Kuthe Kaay Karte. Toh I think the makers thought…I don’t know what the makers were thinking, but (they said) aisa ek show aa raha hai from the Marathi show and mere ghar mei, my mom used to see the Marathi version of it. Toh mujhe bilkul maalum tha ki ye kya ho raha hai ye show mei. Toh I was like ‘No I don’t want to be a part of something like this’ (The idea behind Anupamaa is based on the Marathi show Aai Kuthe Kay Karte. I didn’t know what makers were thinking at that time and my mother used to watch the Marathi version. I knew what happened in the show and didn’t want to be a part of it).”

Actress Rupali Ganguly has greatly benefitted from Neha’s denial and received accolades after playing the titular role in Anupamaa. She essays the role of Anupamaa Vanraj Shah, a housewife, who is disrespected by her family. The show initially started on a good note but has now received criticism for showing regressive concepts.
