Nissan SUV for India based on Duster, Nissan MPV, entry-level EV

Nissan’s future line-up will include as many as two SUVs, one MPV and one entry-level EV.

While Renault has been in the limelight with the recently unveiled all-new Duster, its sister brand, Nissan, is also gearing up to launch a slew of new models for India and other emerging markets. In a presentation recently made by the brand, Nissan announced that it is readying as many as four new models for our market, along with a facelift for the Magnite SUV.

  1. X-Trail, Magnite facelift launch expected in 2024
  2. Creta, Safari rivaling SUVs in due 2025 and later
  3. Global entry-level EV based on CMF-AEV platform being readied

Magnite facelift in the works, launch by late 2024

The Magnite facelift is expected to be ready for launch in 2024. This new SUV has been the only model from Nissan in India for some time now and is exported to quite a few international markets. With the facelift, Nissan also plans to introduce a left-hand drive Magnite, which will open up a new set of export markets for the SUV.

All-new Creta rival based on the Duster coming in 2025

Among the models that are lined-up for India, the all-new Nissan midsize SUV, based on the recently revealed Duster, will be the most important market introduction for the brand. This new SUV will have a lot in common with the Duster including its platform, some interior bits and even body panels. This new CMF-B platform-based SUV will be built alongside the next-gen Duster in Chennai and is expected to be exported to quite a few overseas markets. Expect this new SUV to see the light of day sometime in 2025.

New seven-seat SUV to take on the Alcazar, Safari

While the Duster-based SUV will be a five-seat rival to the Creta, there will be one more Nissan SUV that will be based on the three-row, yet-to-be-revealed Bigster SUV. The Nissan version of the Bigster is still some time away and will come after the launch of the Creta rival.

New three-row MPV based on the Triber

Nissan will also introduce an all-new three-row compact MPV that will be a sister product to the Triber. To be built alongside its Renault sibling in Chennai, the yet-unnamed Nissan MPV will be positioned slightly lower than the Magnite, and will help Nissan dealers with another product for mass market customers. The Triber, with its sub-four-metre footprint and clever three-row interior, has carved out its own niche for customers looking to buy a cheaper alternative to the likes of the Ertiga and Carens. Nissan aims to attract customers with similar requirements with its own three-row MPV.

All-new entry-level EV in the works

Along with Renault, Nissan is also developing an entry-level hatchback based on the CMF-AEV platform, which will be a global product. Sources tell us that India will get this all-new CMF-AEV hatchback and both Renault and Nissan will have their own “derivatives”.

X-Trail could be headed to India too

While these models are still some time away, Nissan is testing the latest-gen X-Trail SUV in India which could come here as a CBU. However, sources tell us that there is no clarity on its market entry yet.
