Nissan‘s turnaround product for India, the Magnite compact SUV has gathered 78,000 bookings. Production of the Magnite at the Renault-Nissan plant near Chennai is in full swing and the company has confirmed that over 42,000 units of the SUV have been built so far. India is the mother plant for the Magnite and the SUV is exported to as many as fifteen countries across the globe.Â

Nissan Magnite: exports
When Nissan commenced exports for the made-in-India Magnite back in June last year, the compact SUV only went out to markets such as Indonesia and South Africa. Now, Nissan has expanded the export market to 13 other nations, bringing the total to 15 countries.
The made-in-India Magnite is now sold in markets like Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Brunei, Uganda, Kenya, Seychelles, Mozambique, Zambia, Mauritius, Tanzania and Malawi. Since commencing exports to Indonesia and South Africa, Nissan has shipped out 6,344 units of the made-in-India Magnite as of December last year. The Magnite was designed and developed in India, but was always meant to be a global product for developing countries around the world.
Nissan Magnite: engine and gearbox details
Under the hood, the Nissan Magnite is available with two petrol engine options. The first is a 72hp, 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, naturally aspirated engine, and the second is a 100hp, 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, turbo-petrol unit.
Both engines are available with a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. The turbo-petrol is also offered with the choice of a CVT automatic gearbox (which produces 152Nm of torque – 8Nm less than the manual). The Magnite is available in five trims – XE, XL, XV Executive, XV, XV Premium. Waiting period on the Magnite currently extends up to 3 months in most cities.Â

The Magnite is positioned in the extremely competitive compact SUV segment where it rivals the likes of the Renault Kiger, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and the Toyota Urban Cruiser. Prices for the Magnite currently range between Rs 5.75 lakh-10.36 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
