Nimrat Kaur inaugurated a war memorial in Rajasthan for her father, Major Bhupender Singh, honouring him and 12 other soldiers on his 72nd birth anniversary.
In a heartfelt tribute to her late father, Bollywood actress Nimrat Kaur inaugurated a war memorial in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan, dedicated to Major Bhupender Singh on what would have been his 72nd birthday. Major Singh, a valiant officer of the Indian Army, was killed by terrorists on January 23, 1994, while serving in Jammu and Kashmir. The memorial, featuring a bronze bust of him, honours Major Singh and twelve other soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
The ceremony was attended by Nimrat, her mother Avinash Kaur, and her sister Rubina Singh, along with families of the other twelve fallen soldiers. A significant gathering of senior Indian Army officials, local administration representatives, and villagers also came to pay their respects. The memorial is now located in a public square that has been renamed Major Bhupender Singh Chowk, serving as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by these brave soldiers.
Taking to her social media handle, Nimrat expressed her gratitude and emotions surrounding the memorial’s inauguration. She wrote, “Today, on my father’s 72nd Birth Anniversary, a long-term dream for our family came true by inaugurating a war memorial dedicated to him and 12 other gallant martyrs all hailing from Papa’s hometown Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan. May the supreme sacrifice of all these soldiers be remembered forever and inspire generations to come.” She extended her appreciation to the army and local authorities for their support in realising this dream.
On January 17, 1994, while conducting reconnaissance for his team’s construction projects, he was ambushed by terrorists. Demonstrating unparalleled courage, he managed to reposition his men during the attack, ultimately leading to his kidnapping by the Hizb-ul-Mujahideen group. He was tragically killed a week later, but his bravery and dedication live on through this memorial, ensuring that his sacrifice and those of his fellow soldiers will never be forgotten.
