John Carney’s directorial Power Ballad will see Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas in the lead. The duo has already started shooting for the film in Dublin.
In a fresh development, Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas have joined hands for an upcoming musical comedy directed by John Carney. Written by Carney and Peter McDonald, the film titled Power Ballad will be based on the story of a wedding singer, a rock star and a song that comes between them, as per the official tagline. The duo is presently shooting for the film in Dublin. Power Ballad is being made under the banner of 30WEST and Anthony Bregman’s Likely Story. In addition to that, Treasure Entertainment’s Robert Walpole and Rebecca O’Flanagan will come together to produce the film.
The film is also expected to be a hit at the Cannes market, as 30WEST, WME Independent and UTA Independent Film Group are preparing for its premiere at the film festival later this month.
Speaking on the same, director John Carney expressed his excitement over the project. “I’m delighted to be working with so many great people. I’ve been working on this script with my buddy Peter for years, and now Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas are in my kitchen,” he said, as quoted by Deadline.
On the other hand, Alex Walton of WME praised John Carney, stating that the director has the “magic” to weave great music into wonderfully engaging and universally relatable stories that will make audience emotions run high. “Power Ballad is fun and heartwarming—themes that audiences crave today. His unique vision, coupled with the global appeal of Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas, will give buyers exactly what they’re looking for,” he added.
Rudd is best known for his role as Ant-Man in Marvel Cinematic Universe films, along with on-screen credits in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, Knocked Up, and Only Murders In The Building. Apart from Carney’s musical drama, the Marvel star will also feature in the indie film Friendship alongside Tim Robinson and Kate Mara and Death of a Unicorn opposite Jenna Ortega.
Similarly, Nick Jonas also has a couple of films to his credit including Camp Rock, Screen Queens, Midway and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle among others. Currently, he is also busy with his band, the Jonas Brothers.
On the other hand, the Irish filmmaker Carney specialises in musical drama and comedy films such as the Oscar-winner Once, Oscar nominee Begin Again and Flora and Son.
