Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio: A close look at the new teasers
The fresh set of teasers reveal quite a few design cues of the upcoming new Scorpio in its final production form. The overall styling and basic design remains unmistakably Scorpio and sticks to what has been partially seen by multiple sightings of test-mules. The new Scorpio will get an upright nose with a tall grille and replete with six vertically placed chrome slats, while the new Mahindra logo taking centerstage.
The front bumper also seems to be quite tall with three separate enclosures, the air dam with its honeycomb mesh design is placed at the centre along with a faux aluminum skid plate. Two separate sections are placed at each corner for the foglamp units and these are outlined with C-shaped LED daytime running lamps. The headlamps look stylish with two projector units and adequate amount of chrome inserts. Speaking of chrome, a strip runs across the width of the SUV, positioned above the headlamps, neatly merging with the grille.
Moving on to the sides, the new Scorpio gets strong character lines that run along its length, including a pronounced kink on the rear door that pushes upwards along with the window line. This design element has been seen on modern Mahindra models like the XUV700 and the XUV300 compact SUV. The glasshouse seems to be big and is surrounded by chrome outline, which most likely will be seen on higher variants only. Wing mirrors also look huge, however, a provision for a 360-degree camera isn’t seen.
The teaser does not show much of the SUV’s rear design, but spy shots have revealed that it will get vertically placed tail-lamps and a side hinged rear door. What the teaser does show is some of the rear bumper with horizontal chrome bits, a rear fog lamp along with reverse lamp, a faux aluminum skid plate and an exhaust outlet.
Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio: Expected engine and gearbox options
As we’ve reported earllier, the new Scoprio (Z101) will come with multiple petrol and diesel engine options. While the engines will be shared with the XUV700, their power outputs will be slightly lower. The diesel version is expected to come with more than one power output option.
Gearbox choices are expected to be a six-speed manual and a six-speed torque convertor automatic for all variants. Mahindra will offer 4WD option in select variants of the new Z101 SUV.
