Next-gen BMW X5 spied ahead of 2026 debut -DellyRanks

BMW has begun work on the fifth-generation X5 SUV that will debut globally sometime in 2026. The all-new X5 has internally been codenamed the G65, while the performance-oriented X5 M is being called the G95, internally.

  1. New X5 will use Neue Klasse design elements
  2. Plug-in hybrid, and full-electric iX5 incoming too

The new-gen X5 will have strong design influences from the Neue Klasse design language, as seen in these spy shots shared by Motor.es; Upfront, the new X5 gets X-shaped daytime running lights with slim wraparound headlamp housings. Additionally, the front bumper features a large central air intake and several circular vents, giving the fascia a sporty look. It also gets flared wheel arches, and the rear-end looks particularly inpired by the XM SUV with quad exhaust tips. The new X5 will be longer, wider, and heavier than the outgoing SUV.

The interior, too, will be majorly inspired by the Neue Klasse theme. So, a minimalist dashboard with a large floating touchscreen and a full-width curved head-up display (HUD) can be expected.

The model pictured here is likely the M60e xDrive variant.

There will be multiple powertrains on offer, including petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid. The one pictured here is likely the M60e xDrive variant with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. This variant will be positioned between the regular petrol variants and the X5-based iX5 electric SUV in the lineup.

The BMW X5 M60e xDrive will come with a 3.0-litre twin turbo six-cylinder petrol engine coupled with an electric motor and a lithium ion battery. Combined power output is pegged to be around 570hp. 8-speed automatic gearbox with xDrive AWD setup will be standard. This iteration of the X5 will have around 75km of EV only range and hence will qualify as a zero emission vehicle in some countries.

The new X5’s global debut is still some time away. It is expected to see a global debut sometime in 2026 and will go on sale in most markets by early 2027.
