Dealer sources confirm that the new Baleno will ditch the CVT gearbox for an AMT. Price announcement likely on February 23.
Maruti Suzuki recently opened bookings for the 2022 Baleno via its Nexa dealerships and online. As the launch draws closer and dealer trainings commence, new information on the 2022 Baleno has started to trickle in.

A few dealers we spoke to have confirmed that the Baleno will get four variants, among other details. Read on to find out the new Baleno’s exterior paint shades, engine and gearbox options.
2022 Maruti Suzuki Baleno: variant details
Akin to the outgoing model, the new Baleno will continue to be offered in four variants – Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha. All four variants will be offered with a manual gearbox as standard, while all variants except the base will also get a new AMT gearbox. As reported by us earlier, the new AMT gearbox will be replacing the more expensive CVT gearbox from the outgoing model. This is being done to keep the automatic variants more accessible to customers. Â
2022 Maruti Suzuki Baleno: colour options
The new Baleno will be offered in six monotone colour options – Pearl Arctic White, Splendid Silver, Grandeur Grey, Celestial Blue, Opulent Red and Luxe Beige. Apart from the white, which has been carried over, all other colour options on the 2022 Baleno will be new.
Maruti Suzuki also recently confirmed that the Baleno will be offered with a segment-first head-up display, among other features. You can read more about exterior design updates and new features expected on the 2022 Baleno here.
2022 Maruti Suzuki Baleno: engine and gearbox details
As for its engine options, Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that the new Baleno will continue to be offered with the existing 90hp, 113Nm, 1.2-litre DualJet petrol engine with 12V mild-hybrid technology. However, it remains to be seen if the 83hp, K12N petrol engine from the current model is carried over.
The 1.2-litre DualJet engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT unit. The Dualjet engine with the AMT gearbox is also offered on the Swift and the Dzire. While the AMT gearbox will make the automatic versions more affordable, it will be a step back from the smoother CVT gearbox.
2022 Maruti Suzuki Baleno: rivals
Upon launch, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno will continue its rivalry with the likes of the Hyundai i20, Tata Altroz, Honda Jazz, Toyota Glanza and the Volkswagen Polo. Given the entire step up in features and quality, the new Baleno is expected to command a reasonable premium over the outgoing model.
