New Honda SUV, Shanghai Motor show, electric SUV, Honda Elevate

New Honda EV SUVs will go on sale in China first, followed by other international markets.

Honda has taken the wraps off not one but three all-electric SUVs at the ongoing Shanghai motor show 2023. All three SUVs are production ready and will go on sale in China initially.

  1. Honda EV SUV range is built in collaboration with two partners
  2. Dongfeng builds e:NS1 SUV range with Honda
  3. GAC manufactures e:NP1 line-up with Honda

The first to make production will be the e:NS2 and e:NP2, a pair of EV SUVs designed to succeed the HR-V-based e:NS1 and e:NP1 models on sale in China since last year. The current pair is identical save for the colour of their charging port and grille: the Dongfeng-built e:NS1’s is body-coloured, whereas the GAC-built e:NP1’s is painted black. The revision will distinguish the twin models better by providing them with different front lighting signatures. The e:NS2 receives angular LED daytime running lights reminiscent of Peugeot models, while the e:NP2 features a design more closely resembling the latest-gen Honda models like the new Civic sold overseas.

Both new cars will go on sale in early 2024 in China, Honda has confirmed, followed by launches in other markets as well. Given that they will be launched in such close proximity to the e:NS1 and e:NP1, their mechanicals are unlikely to change substantially. The official range of 500km could improve slightly, as could the two motor options’ power outputs of 182hp and 213hp.

Honda also displayed the e:N GT concept car on the show floor in Shanghai, but it doesn’t appear to have been changed since its unveiling last year. It’s planned to manifest a production car in 2025.

Honda’s India plans: 2023 and beyond

After a long wait, the Creta-rivalling midsize SUV from Honda will see the light of day later this year. Additionally, Honda will introduce an all-new Amaze in 2024.
