Nawazuddin Siddiqui shared his inputs on portraying a transgender character in his latest film Haddi.
Since its gripping premiere on September 7th, 2023, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Anurag Kashyap, Ila Arun, Saurabh Sachdeva starrer ‘Haddi’ has broken records and left audiences and critics spellbound within a week. The movie has clocked 150 MN viewing minutes. While people are applauding all the actors for put putting up such a compelling show, Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s portrayal of a transgender woman has received immense love from critics and the audience.
In an exclusive chat with Showsha, Nawazuddin Siddiqui opened up about preparing for the role and whether it took a toll on him.

Portraying such a character is not easy, how did you prepare for your role? And in hindsight, what all the effort worth it?
Undoubtedly, the character was a complex one, but our approach was clear from the beginning. When portraying a transgender character, it’s not just about acting; it’s about capturing the essence of their inner world. We undertook this role with the genuine intention of delving into their innermost feelings and experiences, and I believe that the effort was absolutely worthwhile.
Did it take any emotional toll on you and how did you deal with that aspect personally?
There was one particular scene that had a profound emotional impact on me. It was a silent moment where I’m in the office with Zeeshan, and there are no dialogues. In that moment, I enter as Haddi and I see Zeeshan, someone I deeply care about, and yet I can’t approach him due to the path of revenge I had to follow. That scene, in particular, had a deep emotional resonance for me, and I had to navigate those emotions as part of the character’s journey.
