Dhootha is touted to be a supernatural horror thriller.

Naga Chaitanya is making his OTT debut with Dhootha this weekend. Ahead of the series’ release, the Telugu actor talks about changing his on-screen perception.

Actor Naga Chaitanya, who made his Hindi debut last year with Aamir Khan’s Lal Singh Chadha, is set to embark on a new journey as he will be seen making his OTT debut with Dhootha. The supernatural thriller web series is scheduled to release on December 1 on Amazon Prime. Fondly known as ‘Chay’ for his fans, the actor sits down for an exclusive chat with and expresses his excitement about his new innings. He says the series will allow the audience to see him in a different light.

“My fans and people have always encouraged and loved me in romantic characters. So when Dhootha came to me, it blew my mind away as this is a genre that I enjoy supernatural thrillers as an audience. As an actor, I haven’t done anything in the past. It allowed me to come out of my comfort zone and push myself as an actor. I want to prove to the audience that I can fit in out of the romantic zone,” he says.

Ask him whether it was necessary to break out of his romantic image and take up something starkly different from his image, the actor says, “I can keep doing love stories but I am scared people are going to get bored watching me in the same zone. We live in a time where so much content is being consumed from various sources. As an actor, I cannot stagnate as ultimately I am going to die out as the expiry date will kick in. I need to work harder to keep the audience engaged and motivate myself to try different genres.”

The actor adds that being a part of a web series also allows him to expand his audience. “Dhootha is releasing in 200 plus countries and I believe language is not a barrier anymore. When someone sitting in Japan or UAE watches the show and sends a text message or says something about me as an actor and the show, that is the kind of high that I crave. It also gives a lot of exposure as an actor,” he concludes.
