Mona Singh opens up on her chemistry with actor Vijay Raaz, the OTT boom and how it is making sure real stories see the light of day in a chat with .
Mona Singh kickstarted her television journey with the iconic show Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin. Her portrayal of Jassi made her an instant household name and earned her a special place in the hearts of viewers. Since her debut, Mona has come a long way, expanding her repertoire beyond the small screen. She ventured into Bollywood with a memorable role in Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots and recently starred in projects like Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan-starrer Lal Singh Chaddha and the critically acclaimed series Made in Heaven. In an exclusive chat with , she spoke of how actors like her now have a level-playing field courtesy of better scripts and OTT platforms.
Speaking of Made in Heaven, Mona said that such series make an individual think about their own life, aspirations and relationships. “As an actress, we can only do this much to our craft – to influence and uplift the society,” she said, adding that it was amazing working with Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti, the creators of the show.
Mona’s onscreen chemistry with Vijay Raaz in the series was hailed by the audience. Speaking of it, she said, “He’s such a good actor, I love this craft. I would often ask him, ‘How do I say my lines?’ He would tell me ‘Mona, shut up and do your own thing.’ We had wonderful conversations about art, how to become more uninhibited in front of the camera and how to not panic! There was just so much to learn from him.”
Mona, who started with television, thinks OTT has given actors like her an equal platform to prove their mettle. “TV is all about TRPs, films are all about box office collection, but when it comes to OTT, it’s all about real stories. It’s also a great medium for writers to tell bold stories. OTT has changed the entire storytelling and I’m so happy to be a part of this new change. It’s the best phase for actors like me. I’m busy – my calendar is choc-o-bloc and I have shows back to back. I have six releases coming up.”
