Deepika Padukone plays the role a pregnant woman who has to protect her child in Kalki 2898 AD.
Mom-to-be Deepika Padukone will be seen in Kalki 2898 AD, and coincidentally, her character is pregnant in the film. In the Kalki 2898 AD trailer released on Monday, Deepika was seen sporting a baby bump. The trailer revealed that not only is her character pregnant but the baby she is carrying in the film is pivotal to the storyline. She also seems to be sharing scenes with Prabhas and Amitabh Bachchan. It is to note that the actress shot the film before she announced her pregnancy.
In the trailer, Deepika’s character is informed about the importance of the child she is bearing. Amitabh’s character Ashwatthama informs her that the child she is going to give birth to will change the course of time in the film and pave the way for a new age. The trailer also showed that a bounty is set on Deepika’s character, thus leading to her crossing paths with Prabhas.

Given that Kalki 2898 AD appears like a dystopian adaptation of the Mahabharat, it is possible that Deepika’s character is based on one of the mythological characters in the epic. Meanwhile, Kalki 2898 AD marks Deepika Padukone’s first Telugu film. While she has already worked with Amitabh Bachchan in the past, this is the first time that Deepika is working with Prabhas, Kamal Haasan and Disha Patani. The film is directed by Nag Ashwin.
Ahead of the trailer release, Deepika’s husband, actor Ranveer Singh fanboyed over her. Sharing the newly released poster featuring the actress, Ranveer called her ‘The Queen Of The Big Screen’.
Deepika is also in the news for her pregnancy. In March this year, Deepika announced that she was pregnant with her first child. She and Ranveer Singh shared the news via social media. The couple revealed they are expecting their first baby to arrive in September. She debuted her baby bump last month, when she stepped out to cast her vote.
