‘Millet To Go Global’: PM Modi At World Food India 2023 –

India produces all nine kinds of millets.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about the importance of millet in the world at a recent event.

Millet is considered one of the most popular crops in the world. It is a group of small-seeded grasses that are widely grown around the world as cereal crops or grains for fodder and human food. It has a lot of nutritional value and is widely consumed in parts of Asia and Africa. In India, millets are getting a lot of recognition. Recently, World Food India was held in the country from November 3 to 5. During the inauguration ceremony at Pragati Maidan, Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about the importance of millet in the world. During the event, PM Modi addressed the importance of millet. He said, “In India, we have given it (millets) the identity of Sri Anna. On India’s initiative, today once again an awareness campaign regarding millets has started in the world. I believe that just as International Yoga Day took yoga to every corner of the world, now millets will also reach every corner of the world.”

According to reports, millets are considered one of the most secure crops for small farmers, as they can withstand every type of soil and are climate-adaptable in both hot and drought environments. It has also been found that India is a country that has been able to produce all nine kinds of millets.

The government of India, under PM Narendra Modi, led the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) resolution declaring 2023 as the International Year of Millets. The assembly was a success, and this proposal from India was supported by 72 other countries, who also saw this year as the year of millets.

The World Food India event was organised under the Ayush (Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy) scheme. The event was also aimed at promoting these practices on the international stage. The AYUSH products have already become quite famous in the international market. According to Sanjay Mariwala, who is the Managing Director of Omni Active Health Technologies, at present the Indian market for AYUSH products is about $3.5 billion and is likely to reach $ 100 million in the future.
