New MG HS SUV is based on the Roewe RX5; will get at least one plug-in hybrid powertrain.
The all-new MG HS SUV will make its global debut at the upcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK. Ahead of its official introduction, the first set of pictures of the new MG SUV have surfaced online, revealing some details.
- New MG HS will go on sale in UK initially
- Expected to be sold in more international markets soon
- Cloud EV, Hector facelift coming to India this year
According to our sister publication, Autocar UK, MG has given the HS a “sophisticated” overhaul, with more interior space and a class-leading electric-only range from its plug-in hybrid powertrain. This has been done to boost sales of its bestselling SUV in some international markets.
Spy shots confirm that the new MG HS is based on the Chinese Roewe RX5. It will continue to get petrol and PHEV powertrains, but bring improvements to fuel economy and EV range.
MG will hope the new vehicle builds on the SUV’s strong sales, especially in Europe and the UK. The HS is also sold in some ASEAN markets and Australia.
Back home, MG India has plans to introduce a slew of new model launches in our market in the coming years, and the new HS could be one of them. This year, two new launches from MG India are lined up, including the Cloud EV and the Gloster facelift.
