MG Comet EV price, fast charging, new features, range and specs -DellyRanks

Its available on two new top-spec trims, although a charging time hasn’t been quoted yet.

MG Motor India has once again rejigged the Comet line-up, and the most crucial update is the addition of a faster charging option for the electric city runabout. MG has also introduced a few new features for the faster charging variants. Prices for the MG Comet now range between Rs 6.99 lakh – Rs 9.14 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

  1. Fast charging option available in two higher-spec trims
  2. Gets rear disc brakes, hill hold control and ESP as new additions
  3. Battery capacity and electric motor output remain unchanged

MG Comet EV variants rejigged

The Comet was so far available in Pace, Play and Plush trims. These trims have now been renamed to Executive, Excite and Exclusive, respectively. And it’s the latter two that have been made available with the fast-charging option. Prices of the Executive and Excite trims remain unchanged from the previous Pace and Play trims, but the new Exclusive trim is Rs 20,000 more expensive than the outgoing Plush trim.

In other news, MG had recently slashed prices for the Comet EV by up to Rs 1.40 lakh in order to push sales. Here’s how the entire range is priced currently.:

MG Comet EV price (ex-showroom)
Trims Price
Executive Rs 6.99 lakh
Excite Rs 7.88 lakh
Excite FC Rs 8.24 lakh
Exclusive Rs 8.78 lakh
Exclusive FC Rs 9.14 lakh

MG Comet EV new features, upgrades

One of the biggest drawbacks of the Comet EV has been that it was only available with a slow 3.3kW AC charger since launch. MG has now introduced a faster 7.4kW AC charger on the two higher-spec trims, although the company has not quoted a charging time yet. For reference, the 3.3kW AC charger charges the Comet EV from 0-100 percent in seven hours.

The fast-charging variants also get a few other major feature additions over the regular variants. These include rear disc brakes, an electronic parking brake, ESC, hill-hold control, power foldable wing mirrors now finished in body colour, and a creep mode. This has increased the top-end price by Rs 56,000, but it surely comes across as better value.

MG Comet EV specs and range

The Comet EV gets a 17.3kWh battery with an ARAI-certified range of 230km. It gets a single electric motor on the rear axle that develops 42hp and 110Nm of torque. As a two-door electric urban runabout, the Comet EV does not have a direct rival in the market. However, entry-level variants of the Tata Tiago EV with a 19.2kWh battery and an ARAI-claimed range of 250km is its nearest competition.
