Metaverse enables us to embed computing in real world, vice versa: CEO Satya Nadella

Mumbai: Microsoft Corp. is building identity systems of the future for real time action enabling computing solutions to be embedded in the real world and bring real presence into virtual spaces, said Satya Nadella, chairman and CEO, MIcrosoft speaking at the Future Ready event today.

He stressed on how businesses are reimagining hybrid work creating with the new identity management solutions that are helping businesses collaborate better.

“We are building the metaverse in transects the metaverse platform for you to build upon. In a sense, the metaverse enables us to embed computing into the real world and to embed the real world into computing, bringing real presence to any digital space. For years we’ve talked about creating this digital representation of the world. But now we actually have the opportunity to go into that world and participate in it,” said Nadella.

The metaverse refers to a collection of shared online worlds in which physical, augmented, and virtual reality converge. People can hang out with friends, work, visit places, buy goods and services, and attend events. While many virtual worlds exist online, users currently can’t move between them while retaining their identities and assets. Companies like Microsoft and Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta (formerly Facebook) are already betting big on building solutions for this space.

“We’re building the identity system of the future, a connective network that enables people, organisations, apps, and even smart things to make real time access decisions,” he added.

Nadella added that companies collaborate digitally within organisations as well as with customers, partners, suppliers. These require a hybrid and hyperconnected business, multi cloud, multi edge computing, or zero trust security workspaces within the digital ecosystem. It also requires trust between different parties to be established in real time.

“What’s most important is that we are able to bring our humanity with us and choose how we want to experience this world and who we want to interact with. It’s no longer just looking at a camera view of a factory floor. You can be on the floor. It’s no longer just video conferencing with colleagues. That’s the next big breakthrough and we are approaching this thoughtfully because we have learned from similar transitions in the past,” he said.

He added that as companies across the globe move from mobile and cloud computing to ubiquitous computing solutions, organisations will experience more digitisation in the next ten years than they have in the past 40 years. The shift towards such a digital way of working will involve more hybrid workspaces as well as talent to drive innovation for such ecosystems.

“ We need that next level of real time hyperconnectivity between businesses and between consumers and businesses where data and intelligence flow freely to tackle the challenges of supply and demand. In fact by 2025, it’s projected that sales and marketing processes will involve more proactive engagement than reactive once all the way from customer marketing to supply chain. Going forward. Every business process will be collaborative, powered by data and AI and will bridge the digital and physical worlds,” said Nadella.
