Mercedes-AMG unveils new teaser for Vision AMG EV concept

The German performance brand has previewed its first electric concept car, the Vision AMG, which is set to be revealed next week.

Mercedes-AMG has confirmed the name of its first EV concept car that’s slated to be unveiled on May 19. Named the Vision AMG, the concept will showcase Mercedes’ plans of developing electric-only cars from 2025 that will focus on performance and luxury.

  • Teaser design inspired by the Mercedes Vision EQXX concept
  • Mercedes plans to develop electric-only platforms from 2025
  • Estimated investments of more than €40 billion (Rs 3.5 lakh crore) to be made by 2030

Mercedes Vision AMG: what is it?

The new teaser hints at Mercedes-AMG’s plans to direct themselves towards all-electric performance. The automaker has not revealed any powertrain or technical details of its upcoming concept, apart from the fact that it will feature a grounds-up electric architecture. This suggests that the Vision AMG concept will act as the halo car for the brand once its production version arrives in 2025.

With more details yet to arrive on May 19, the teaser posted by Mercedes designer Gordon Wagener on social media showcases the Vision AMG taking design inspiration from the long-range Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX concept. The concept appears to feature prominent haunches at the rear, a low-slung silhouette with a short two-door bodystyle, and a more overtly cab-forward stance.

Mercedes’ plans to go all-electric

Back in July 2021, Mercedes announced its plans of launching three electric-only platforms by 2025 and achieving complete electrification by 2030. With plans of investing more than €40 billion (Rs 3.5 lakh crore) over the next eight years, the automaker also confirmed that it will work on introducing AMG variants of all its EQ models.
