Maserati has taken the wraps off an even more hardcore version of its MC20 supercar. The track-ready, GT2-inspired model is 60kg lighter than the MC20, and gets 10hp more from its 3.0-litre V6 turbo-petrol engine.

  1. Maserati MC20 GT2 Stradale gets 640hp, weighs 1,365kg
  2. Features prominent aero kit
  3. Uses suspension and brakes from GT2

The Maserati GT2 Stradale’s engine now makes 640hp at 7,500rpm. Considering the lower 1,365kg kerb weight, the GT2 Stradale has a claimed 0-100kph time of 2.8 seconds. This is on par with the more powerful but slightly heavier 750hp McLaren 750S and faster than the 829hp plug-in hybrid Ferrari 296 GTB.

The prominent aero kit — primarily made up of a new front diffuser and the GT2’s large rear wing — is said to have enhanced high speed cornering, with 500kg of aerodynamic downforce produced at 280kph, compared to the MC20’s 145kg at the same speed. In addition, the Stradale uses the same more sophisticated suspension set-up and the steering-rack tune as the GT2. Maserati has also equipped it with the same braking set-up, including ventilated discs, callipers and pads and a slightly track-biased anti-lock system.

There’s also a new Corsa Evo driving mode, which works as an advanced, four-level traction control system, but only available with the optional performance packs. These packs also add Michelin semi-slick tyres, an electronic limited-slip differential, four-point seatbelts and more.

Our sister publication Autocar UK reports that the GT2 Stradale’s price will be about Rs 1 crore more than the standard MC20’s Rs 2.4 crore price tag in the UK, and that’s before personalisation options are ticked. Maserati head Davide Grasso had told Autocar UK how special editions like this are crucial to the company’s goal of achieving “benchmark margins in the industry”. That has become even more important now, as Maserati seeks to recover from a recorded Euro 82 million (about Rs 758 crore) adjusted operating loss in 2023.
