The third-gen Maruti Suzuki Alto is said to borrow styling cues and platform from the latest-gen Celerio.
Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch the latest-generation Alto in India on August 18, as per our sources. The entry-level hatchback will get an all-new platform as well as a new powertrain option. Maruti Suzuki will also launch its flagship SUV, the new Grand Vitara, in September.
New Maruti Suzuki Alto: platform and powertrain
The upcoming third-generation Alto is expected to be built on Maruti’s modular Heartect platform, which also underpins multiple models in the company’s line-up. Heartect platform is available on cars right from the S Presso, Celerio and WagonR to the Ertiga and XL6.Â
The hatchback will most likely get two powertrain options – the existing 796cc petrol engine and the new K10C 1.0-litre DualJet unit, most recently seen in the Maruti Suzuki S Presso; the former produces 48hp and 69Nm of torque, while the new K10C produces 67hp and 89Nm. The upcoming Alto will eventually get CNG-powered versions as well.
New Maruti Suzuki Alto: design
The Alto has been a popular model for Maruti Suzuki ever since it was launched back in 2000. The third-generation model will be a first full redesign of the Alto since the outgoing model hit the market in 2012.Â
It has been under development for more than a year and spy photos suggest a refreshed design language. It is said to borrow styling cues from the latest Celerio that launched last year and is now sharper than before. Inside, higher variants are expected to get a touchscreen infotainment system, electrically adjustable outside rear-view mirrors (ORVMs) and power windows.
New Maruti Suzuki Alto: launch timeline
The upcoming Alto is expected to be launched in India on August 18, with teasers expected in the coming weeks. It will rival the Renault Kwid.Â
