Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV pricing, delivery details and variants

Deliveries for the Grand Vitara will begin by early October, dealer sources tell us.

Maruti Suzuki will be launching the much-awaited Grand Vitara SUV by the last week of September, with customer deliveries set to begin from early October. Dispatches to dealerships will also begin by the middle of September.

  • Grand Vitara will be available in six trims, 10 variants
  • AWD will only be offered in top-spec 1.5 mild hybrid MT
  • Customer deliveries to commence from first week of October

Bookings for the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara have been underway since July for a token amount of Rs 21,000. The company has revealed that it has received around 50,000 bookings for the Grand Vitara; moreover, around 45 percent of total bookings have been for the strong hybrid variants. No doubt, the strong hybrid variants will be pricey, but it suggests that customers are willing to pay a premium for higher efficiency.

Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara: trims and variants

Keeping in line with Maruti’s Nexa models, the Grand Vitara uses a familiar nomenclature for its six trims: Sigma, Delta, Zeta, Alpha, Zeta+ and Alpha+.

The 103hp, 1.5 mild-hybrid petrol engine will be available on the first four trims. A 5-speed manual gearbox will be standard on all four trims, while a 6-speed automatic gearbox will be offered from the Delta trim onward. Suzuki’s AllGrip AWD system – only available with the mild-hybrid manual powertrain – will only be offered on the Alpha trim.

Meanwhile, the 115hp, 1.5 strong-hybrid petrol powertrain will be offered on the top two Zeta+ and Alpha+ trims, mated solely to an e-CVT transmission. For more details on the features offered in each trim, click here.

It’s interesting to note that the strong-hybrid powertrain on Grand Vitara’s sibling – the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder – will be offered in three trims (S, G and V), suggesting that it will likely have a lower starting price than the former.

Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara: rivals in India

Upon launch, the Grand Vitara will see competition from the likes of the  Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Nissan Kicks and the upcoming Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. The Maruti and Toyota duo are the only SUVs to come with mild or strong hybrid petrol powertrains, while the rest are offered with either petrol, turbo-petrol or diesel engines.

We recently drove the Grand Vitara at Maruti’s new R&D centre in Rohtak, about which you can read here.
