Unlike the Grand Vitara and Hyryder duo, the styling differences are a lot more minimal here.
Maruti Suzuki’s newest offering in India, the Invicto MPV, is a badge-engineered version of the Toyota Innova Hycross. Both models have identical underpinnings, but unlike the Grand Vitara and Hyryder, which are significantly differentiated in styling from each other, the Invicto and Innova Hycross are much less so. Even on the inside, cosmetic differences are only brought about by different colours for the trim and upholstery.
We take a close look at the details that set the new Maruti Invicto apart from the Toyota Innova Hycross.
Maruti Invicto vs Toyota Innova Hycross: exterior differences
The changes are mostly concentrated on the face; the Invicto gets an all-new bumper with a larger grille, a new mesh design and more chrome garnishing with two slats running across the centre. The LED turn indicator surrounds have also been slightly redesigned, there’s a new contrasting black trim on the lower section of bumper, and it also gets a larger central air intake compared to the Innova Hycross, as well as a silver garnish on the chin.
As for the headlamps, the Invicto gets Nexa’s signature three-dot LED Daytime Running Lamp treatment, while the Hycross gets a simple LED strip. Over to the sides, the only major difference seen is the wheels – the Invicto gets smaller 17-inch rims with a dual-tone design, while the Hycross gets 18-inch rims finished in silver. The Invicto also misses out on the ‘Hybrid’ badge on the front fender.
At the rear, the LED tail-lamps on both MPVs have slightly different internals – the Invicto gets the three-dot LED treatment, while the Hycross gets a simple horizontal strip. The Invicto also gets a chrome garnish on the rear bumper that the Hycross misses out on. Besides these details, both MPVs are identical to each other.Â
Despite the differences, both MPVs still look quite similar to each other much like previous badge-engineered models like the Brezza and Urban Cruiser or the Glanza and Baleno. That, however, was not the case with the Grand Vitara and Hyryder duo, where both brands made the effort to considerably differentiate their SUV from the other as per their respective design philosophies.
Maruti Invicto vs Toyota Innova Hycross: interior
On the inside, the dashboard design is absolutely identical. But while the Hycross gets a dual-tone black and brown interior and upholstery with silver highlights, the Invicto gets an all-black interior and upholstery with bronze highlights. Like the Hycross, the Invicto is also available with both 7- and 8-seater configurations.

Maruti Invicto vs Toyota Innova Hycross: powertrain options
Under the hood, the Invicto gets a sole strong-hybrid powertrain with a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine coupled with an electric motor. Combined, it produces 184hp and it is mated to an e-CVT. As we had reported previously, Maruti Suzuki has skipped the 173hp, 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with the CVT gearbox on the Invicto.
