Maruti Fronx price, Fronx 1.5 South Africa engine details

The 1.5-litre engine could also see duty on the Toyota version of the Fronx for the international market.

The made-in-India Suzuki Fronx has been introduced for the South African market. The Fronx joins a long list of Suzuki models made by Maruti in India for this country. The Fronx is being built at Maruti Suzuki’s plant at its Gujarat plant in India for the domestic and export market.

Suzuki Fronx: what’s different in South Africa?

The export-market Fronx gets a few tweaks to its feature list and colour palette but the most important one is seen under the hood. Like the made-in-India Baleno sold in South Africa, the Fronx too gets a single 1.5-litre petrol engine option and skips on the 1.2-litre petrol and the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol Boosterjet powerplant. The South African market Fronx gets the same 1.5-litre petrol engine that sees duty on the Brezza and the Grand Vitara, and even on MPVs like the Ertiga and the XL6.This engine churns out 103hp and 138Nm of torque and comes mated to either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic. As far as equipment and features go, the feature list looks almost identical to the one available in India.

The Suzuki Fronx is one of the latest made-in-India Maruti Suzuki models to be exported overseas.  In South Africa, Suzuki sells many made-in-India models under the Suzuki as well as some under the Toyota brand.  Maruti Suzuki models with the highest export demand are the Dzire sedan, the SwiftS-Presso and Baleno hatchbacks, and the Brezza SUV. In the coming months, the Fronx will also spawn a Toyota derivative that will be called the Urban Cruiser Taisor and it will be sold in India as well as export markets.
