Marathi Actor Pradeep Patwardhan Passes Away At 64, Maha CM Eknath Shinde Mourns His Death


Renowned Marathi actor Pradeep Patwardhan passed away at the age of 64. The actor reportedly died following a heart attack. The news of his demise was confirmed by the chief minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde.


Taking to Twitter, the Maharashtra CM expressed his grief over the actor’s sudden demise and offered his condolences. “Pradeep Patwardhan, the evergreen actor who ruled the hearts of the audience with his graceful acting in Marathi cinema, passed away tragically. With his departure, the Marathi art world has lost a great artist,” he wrote in Marathi.

Several stars also remembered the veteran actor. Renuka Shahane offered her prayers while Marathi actor Samir Choughule was shocked by the news. Taking to Facebook, he wrote, “Patya dada..Why did you leave us??..It’s really shocking..Rest in peace.”

Actor Rohan Pednekar shared a picture from one of the duo’s plays and wrote, “I did my first professional drama with you… You were very special to me. All our rehearsals, experiments – tours have been stored in the corner of the heart… You left us too early.”

Nikhil Raut penned a long note in his memory. The actor remembered playing the role of his son in a show on Doordarshan when he was new in the industry. He added that the late actor took good care of him and taught him a lot. “I was very excited to work with you because when I was looking for work in Mumbai, whenever I wanted to go to Shivaji Mandir, about 4/5 plays were advertised on the playboard near the booking office. I would always see one name ‘Pradeep Patwardhan’ there. We would often talk over the phone, whenever we met, he always asked and appreciated my work with affection. I still remember the last meeting, after seeing the crowd that came to meet me after my challenge play, you said “Keep it up Raja”. Pradeep Dada, Very shocking news,” he wrote on Facebook.

Pradeep Patwardhan was best known for his hit Marathi play Moruchi Mavashi. But he also starred in a number of films and TV serials. These include Full Chaar Half (1991), Mee Shivajiraje Bhosale Boltoy (2009), and Police Line (2016). He was also a part of Anurag Kashyap’s film Bombay Velvet.
