Even if you don’t have an internet connection, you can use this service to send and request money, change your UPI PIN, and check your account balance.
Banking services are available to everyone in the country through *99#, which is offered by 83 major banks and 4 telecom service providers and is available in 13 languages, including Hindi and English. You can set it up and use it to make UPI payments offline:
Dial *99# on your smartphone or feature phone with the same phone number that is linked to your bank account to set up offline UPI payments. Enter your bank’s name and select the language you prefer. After that, a list of bank accounts that are linked to your number will be displayed to you; simply select the one you want to use by selecting the appropriate option. Finally, enter the expiration date and the last six digits of your debit card.
You won’t need an internet connection to make UPI payments once you have successfully set up *99#. To send money, dial *99# on your phone and enter 1. Enter the recipient’s UPI ID, phone number, or bank account number after selecting your preferred option. The amount and your UPI PIN will then be entered. Once you’ve completed the process, your payment will be made, and you’ll be charged a maximum of Rs. 0.50 per transaction for using the *99# service. The current upper limit on this service is Rs. 5,000 per transaction.
