Mahindra & Mahindra seems to help SsangYong’s EV enterprise – ET Auto

The UV main has been in discussions with a number of corporations globally for this platform as Mahindra Electric seems to de-risk its India enterprise by supplying EV know-how

Even because the cash-strapped SsangYong Motors is struggling to remain afloat, its guardian firm Mahindra & Mahindra is seeking to help the electrical car (EV) enterprise on the Korean automotive maker.

Mahindra plans to develop and provide the electrical SUV drivetrain on its ‘MESMA 350’ platform. This powertrain is appropriate for changing current ICE (inside combustion engine) automobiles to electrical and for making ground-up EVs.

The UV main has been in discussions with a number of corporations globally for this platform as Mahindra Electric seems to de-risk its India enterprise by supplying EV know-how, particularly for last-mile connectivity. It showcased Mesma 350, scalable and modular structure with a 350 Volt powertrain, on the Auto Expo final 12 months.

“Mahindra will continue to support SsangYong to develop and supply the electric SUV drivetrain on MESMA 350 platform based on their requirements,” mentioned Rajesh Jejurikar, ED, Mahindra & Mahindra.

More on Mahindra

“The company has decided to prepone the scheduled maintenance of four working days, in each of its Automotive Division Manufacturing Plants, to the month of May 2021, in a staggered manner,” M&M mentioned.

“Mahindra would have benefited from the global footprint of SsangYong and launched EV platforms globally had they continued their relationship. Now, the MESMA platform will focus a lot more on ground-up EV model development for India and sharing the Mesma platform with SsangYong will help both companies,” mentioned Kaushik Madhavan, VP, mobility, Frost & Sullivan.
